Reduce, Re-use, Recycle: Teaching Children To Love The Environment
Posted 6 months ago at 12:00 am
Childhood is an impressionable time which makes it the perfect stage of life to get into the habit of recycling and respecting the environment! Here are some eco-friendly ideas to try with your kids:
1. Put a box for recycling beside the main trash can in your house. Help your child glue examples of what can go in the box on the outside of it (a sheet of paper, flattened pop cans, etc.)
2. In warmer months dry clothes outside and make sure to grab something for your kid to stand on so they can lend a hand. Later in the day they might find that the damp clothing makes a fun little playground!
3. Set up a compost bin in your backyard and have your children help maintain it. Planting a vegetable garden could also be fun for them.
4. Take a walk around the neighborhood. Bring a trash bag and gloves to pick up any litter you might see along the way.
5. Before throwing away items (toys, clothing) that are damaged or worn out think about ways you can repair them or turn them into something new. Also, don-t hesitate to take un-used items to a charity!
